I was completely blown away by the sets in Shōgun. The way they crafted these incredible 17th-century Japanese worlds is mind-boggling, taking us from massive fortified castles to intimate fishing villages. Any true design denizen has spent time studying the history of decorative arts in Japan. Rarely does the seamless ease and high-function of Japanese architecture come across on the big screen like it does in the Emm- award winning show Shōgun. The chancellor’s palace is a gorgeous explosion of handpainted rice paper, smooth wooden beams, and fine tatami mats.
