I never thought I’d become that person who brags about their very artificial flowers—yet here I am, waxing poetic about LEGO roses. But hear me out.
As we know from my first obsession column, my cat has made it his life’s mission to sabotage good design in my apartment—including turning every houseplant I have into his personal salad bar—which means I have to get creative with how to keep my space both stylish and pet-proof.
The LEGO rose bouquet is my new favorite thing. The 822-piece set includes four roses caught in shy bud stage; four mid-bloom; and four in full flourish, plus delicate sprigs of baby’s breath. While, yes, the bouquet may be a bit close to veering into kitschy territory, it’s surprisingly chic after giving it a home in a pretty vase.
And of course, the best part is building them. It’s a quiet activity that makes you forget about your phone for a while. Each bloom comes together like a tiny puzzle and I’m often getting lost in the precise mechanics of it all—clicking petals into place, adjusting stems, watching flowers emerge from a pile of plastic pieces. It’s relaxing—more meditative than mindless scrolling, and more rewarding than another night of streaming.
Currently, they’re staged in a vintage vase on my nightstand, adding a perpetual touch of color and playfulness that never fails to draw delighted double-takes from visitors.
“Wait, are those LEGOs?”
Yes. Yes, they are. And they’re adorable.
For those of us living under the tyranny of our feline overlords, or just love a good, cozy hobby—these LEGO roses are—not to be dramatic—sort of revolutionary.
