An Expert Review of Boll & Branch’s Signature Hemmed Sheets

If there’s one thing I know about myself, it’s that I’m an absolute sucker for luxury sheets. Over the years, I’ve tested out bedding from every point on the spectrum: Affordable options from Amazon, viral bamboo sheets, and most recently, a budget duvet cover with a thread count of maybe 10 that felt like sleeping between two sheets of sandpaper. But when it came time to rectify this last bedding mishap, I knew there was one brand I needed to try: Boll & Branch.

If you’ve ever perused a list of the best sheet sets, odds are Boll & Branch’s Hemmed Sheet Set is on it. With thousands of positive reviews, I had high hopes. I’ve had my new set of bedding for a little while now, so if you’re thinking of taking the plunge, here is everything you need to know.

Materials & Sustainability

Maybe it’s the Californian in me, but I need to know that my bedding is made of high-quality, sustainable materials. My Boll & Branch sheets are made of organic cotton. On their website, the brand has a sustainability report that’s easy to peruse. In it, they highlight how their cotton is grown without chemicals, the artisans that make the fabric, and their commitment to ensuring all their workers–from start to finish–are treated fairly.

While materials like bamboo lyocell are becoming more popular these days, I’m still a sucker for pure cotton sateen sheets. I find that they are often thicker than other options, which means fewer snags or holes, and an overall greater durability. Not to mention, my Boll & Branch sheets are easy to machine-wash and dry.

Feel & Construction

I’ve been sleeping on bamboo sheets for the past few months, so I was very curious if these Boll & Branch sheets would feel more crisp and less silky than what I’m now used to. On the contrary, while the texture is definitely different, I found the Signature Hemmed Sheet to be buttery and soft, with a sheen that’s not dissimilar to my previous bamboo set. They did feel slightly warmer to sleep in, but my husband–who’s a self-confessed hot sleeper–said he noticed no difference at all.

My favorite part of my Boll & Branch sheets, though, is the construction and little details that made putting them on a breeze. Nothing irks me more than struggling to find the right corner, or having my duvet bunch up at the bottom. I opted to test out two Boll & Branch sets, the Signature Hemmed Sheet Set which includes a flat sheet, fitted sheet and two pillowcases; and the Signature Hemmed Duvet Set, which includes a duvet cover and two pillow shams. The fitted sheet has a tag that shows which is the bottom side, which made it so easy to put on. I did find that it was slightly larger than my correlating Queen mattress, but the difference was negligible. The duvet cover has a handy zipper enclosure, and ties to keep the duvet in place. The pillowcases were pretty standard, but I absolutely adore the pillow shams. They also have a zipper, which means my pillow inserts won’t come spilling out in the night. The hemmed edges of each piece feel so luxurious on my bed. I personally don’t use flat sheets on my bed, so that was the only item in the set that fell to the wayside.

Overall Thoughts

Let’s talk about money: The queen-sized Signature Hemmed Sheet Set comes in at $279, while the queen-sized Signature Hemmed Duvet Set is $349. In total, my bed is now encased in $628 worth of organic cotton. I understand that for many this is a pricey up-front investment, but I want to put a few things into perspective. For one, when compared to other luxury bedding options, or even to comparable cotton sheets, Boll & Branch is not more expensive than other brands. In fact, some high-end companies use less sustainable materials, and sell their products for two to four times what Boll & Branch sheets cost. Secondly, I always find it helpful to break down prices into a cost-per-wear analysis. I fully intend on using my Boll & Branch Signature Hemmed sheets forever. That means that over the years, the cost will become negligible.

Overall, I am over the moon with my Boll & Branch sheets. They’re comfortable, cozy, soft, and, I think, well worth the cost.
