Jeff Bezos has left Seattle, and with it, his lakefront property. What he takes with him is a profit of roughly $25.5 million, and a new record set for the state’s most expensive residential sale. And for the Blue Origin owner—aka the Amazon founder, aka the household name that he is—all of it tracks.
When he announced on Instagram a couple years ago that he and his wife Lauren Sanchez would be moving to Miami, he said it was an emotional move. Seattle was home. But the house itself is pretty nice, too, and, for any normal person, would be sad to leave. Granted, it wasn’t exactly built for the normals.
Designed by Jim Olson, the 9,420-square-foot «American Palace,» as Olson refers to it on his site, sits at 4053 Hunts Point Road on a few acres in the ultra desirable Hunts Point area of Washington State (other current listings in the area are between $22 and $35 million).
Olson calls the three-bedroom «understated,» a trick of design intended to weave «art and nature together, creating a comfortable place to live.» The previous owner, Barney Ebsworth, housed a collection in it that includes a string of American greats. Thus the gallery wing. And the light pouring through the glass walls, albeit «carefully balanced» so the paintings are «unobtrusively protected from direct sun.»
Other luxe amenities include an elevator, more than one kitchen, a guesthouse, and a rooftop terrace.
And while Bezos is leaving Washington, and he is reportedly holding onto two properties there, offloading the Palace will, according to CNBC, save him a lot in taxes.
