HBO Max’s acclaimed series Hacks is finally back for a fourth season—it premiered April 10. Bingers are in for another installment of sharp wit and high emotions as Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) impresses Bob Lipka (Tony Goldwyn), a media conglomerate CEO, and steps into the world of late-night television, achieving her long-held dream of hosting her own talk show. Watching the season’s premiere episode, we can’t help but eye the show’s backdrop of spectacular estates and fabulous California homes—well, one mansion in particular: Bob’s house.
The house appears in the scene when Lipka hosts a party at his mansion in episode one. You’ll remember it in the scene when Deborah walks down the grand outdoor staircase leading to the lawn in her red-on-red party outfit. During the episode, Bob tells Deborah of the house, “1935, it was built. Paul Williams was the architect.”
This is actually true. The Greek-inspired villa was designed by Williams, the legendary American architect who created and revived many iconic homes and buildings in Los Angeles and beyond. He designed the homes of numerous celebrities—including Frank Sinatra, Lucille Ball, and Desi Arnaz—in addition to many commercial, institutional, and civic buildings, including the Beverly Hills Hotel.
The Greek-inspired villa—located in Brentwood, California—was built in 1935 and later renovated by architecture firm Landry Design Group. The house’s interiors are styled with Hollywood Regency-style details and Americana decor. It has copious amounts of windows that offer great natural light.
Beyond the all-white deck and two flights of stairs leading to the yard, is a pool with fountains and a two-story waterslide. There’s also a koi pond with a waterfall, surrounded by palm trees, as well as trails and a large green lawn. According to Image Locations, it’s available for filming and photo shoots.
The show features numerous other architectural gems. There’s Deborah’s Los Angeles home, an Altadena mansion that was built in 1915. The Spanish Colonial Revival was introduced during season two of Hacks. Who could forget that powder blue-painted entryway? Beyond, there are five bedrooms, six bathrooms, an outdoor pool, and stunning landscaping. The house was affected by the Los Angeles wildfires in early 2025, but some filming for season four was able to take place prior to the event. Most of the home’s interiors were built onstage, so you may see those same rooms again in season 4.
Another house that features in the new season is Winnie Landell’s (Helen Hunt) house, a midcentury modern residence known as the Stanley House. It was built by XTEN Architecture and Lenny Kravitz, and sold for $33 million. Today, it’s available for filming, photoshoots, and even a very nice stay.
There’s also Ava Daniels’s Los Angeles apartment, an apartment at the outdoor mall known as The Americana at Brand; Deborah’s Las Vegas mansion, the exterior of which was shot at a private Bel Air home (the interiors built on soundstages); and Marcus’s (Carl Clemons-Hopkins) house, a midcentury modern residence located in Granada Hills, California and estimated to be worth $1.41 million, according to Zillow.
