What We Spotted in Lauren Sánchez’s Writing Room

Lauren Sánchez has worn a lot of hats—news anchor, pilot, producer, and, yes, fiancée to Jeff Bezos—but her latest Instagram post nodded to her current role as a children’s book author. Yesterday, Sánchez shared a peek inside her writing room on Instagram. The minute-long clip reveals a mix of bold colors, playful prints, and painted ceilings. Naturally, we did what any self-respecting design sleuths would do: paused, zoomed in, and looked around. Here’s what we spotted.

The first shot reveals light-filled room in what we assume is her Los Angeles home. To the right, a built-in chest-of-drawers with a mirrored exterior is topped with framed photos and personal mementos. To the left, the camera pans to a fluted, beveled writing desk that’s topped with a vivid magenta surface. Upon it sits an Apple computer, a phone holder, a vase of matching magenta Delphiniums, and several stacked books. The chair, a mahogany-colored, curvy-carved seat adds further character.

The windows are framed with floor-to-window top curtains that are tied back to reveal a spirited abstract color pattern. Above the chest-of-drawers, a similarly patterned window treatment was placed above two thinner windows in the form of roman shades.

“Almost every day when I was a reporter in the newsroom was just packed with people, and you had to write, you know, with all this commotion going on, and I got really used to it, and I love it,” Sánchez says, talking to the camera in the next shot. “I’ve had a little writer’s block with a second book, and I’ve noticed that if I have a really calm, peaceful place, that I’m able to let all of my ideas kind of flow through me easier than I could in a group.”

Behind her, portions of the wall have been washed in a color-blocking sky blue, complemented by a cloud-painted ceiling and yellow-speckled walls.

Sánchez’s debut children’s book, The Fly Who Flew to Space, was released in September 2024 and quickly hit the top of the New York Times Bestseller list. The story, inspired by her own experiences with dyslexia and her family’s encouragement, follows Flynn the Fly on an unexpected journey into space. In this post, she hinted at a second book that we’d wager will be fleshed out in this writing space.
