Everything We Know About ‘Only Murders in the Building’ Season 5

Our favorite true crime podcasters are back in New York, as cameras roll on season 5 of the Emmy-winning Hulu series, Only Murders in the Building. With production in full swing since March and a star-studded cast that grows more impressive by the day, the trio is back to doing what they do best: investigating suspicious deaths in their impossibly unlucky apartment building. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming season of Only Murders.

The show’s main characters—Steve Martin (Charles), Martin Short (Oliver), and Selena Gomez (Mabel)—will all return for the fifth season. Other returning cast members include Meryl Streep as Loretta Durkin-Putnam, Michael Cyril Creighton as Howard, Jackie Hoffman as Uma, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph as Detective Williams.

We’re also expecting a lineup of new faces: Téa Leoni, who briefly appeared in the season 4 finale, joins as Sofia Caccimelio. This season will also welcome two-time Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz in a role that’s still being kept under wraps. Plus: Renée Zellweger, Keegan-Michael Key, Beanie Feldstein, Logan Lerman, and Jeramine Fowler have all signed on for recurring roles in the upcoming season—but details about their characters remain confidential.

The production has been spotted at several iconic New York locations since filming began in March 2025. The cast recently filmed scenes on Staten Island near the famous house used in The Godfather. As for the Arconia itself, the exterior shots use The Belnord, a 13-story apartment building located on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

When will season five of Only Murders in the Building premiere?

While there is no official release date yet, all signs point to an October 2025 premiere, continuing the show’s consistent yearly release pattern established since its 2021 debut. Season 4 started filming in March of 2024, filming wrapped in June 2024, and the show was out at the end of October 2024.

So, considering production began this past March in NYC, with recent behind-the-scenes photos already circulating online, the show should easily make its anticipated October premiere window.

The new season will consist of 10 episodes, consistent with previous seasons, and will likely be released weekly on Hulu.

What will season five of Only Murders in the Building be about?

Spoilers ahead: Season 5 will center around the murder of the Arconia’s longtime doorman Lester (played by Teddy Coluca), whose body was discovered in the courtyard fountain during the season 4 finale. This death is particularly emotional—the trio has known Lester since the beginning of the series.

The new season will also explore the disappearance of Nicky “The Neck” Caccimelio, who has connections to the Caputo crime family (previously mentioned in season 4). His wife, Sofia Caccimelio, made a brief but impactful appearance in the season 4 finale, approaching the trio to investigate her husband’s disappearance.

Co-creator John Hoffman has teased that season 5 will examine themes of past versus present New York, to “tell a particular kind of take from a New York angle” that reflects “very current things going on within New York.” He also mentioned that this season will dive deeper into the Arconia’s hidden history.
