‘Wicked’ Is Returning to Screens—Here’s Everything to Know About the November 2025 Second Act

Wicked: For Good is set to conclude one of Broadway’s most beloved stories on the big screen, and it’ll be here later this year. Director Jon M. Chu’s second part of the film premieres November 21, 2025, exactly one year after the first movie hit theaters worldwide. Wicked: For Good picks up immediately where Part One left off, with Elphaba fully embracing her role as the Wicked Witch of the West while Glinda becomes the Wizard’s chief propagandist. Now, the two former friends stand on opposite sides of a political revolution that’s reshaping Oz.

The film will explore the darker, more complex themes of the musical’s second act, including the consequences of power, the price of standing up for what’s right, and the dissolution of friendship. We’ll also see the events of The Wizard of Oz from an entirely different perspective.

The new trailer just premiered.

Who will appear in Wicked: For Good?

The entire original cast returns, with Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande leading as Elphaba and Glinda, supported by Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard, Ethan Slater as Boq, and Marissa Bode as Nessarose.

What will Wicked: For Good be about?

Unlike Part One, which was heavily centered at Shiz University, Wicked: For Good ventures beyond the academic setting. The sequel expands throughout Oz as the story follows the second act of the Broadway musical, taking audiences to the Emerald City (where much of the political drama unfolds), Munchkinland (where Nessarose rules), and various other regions across the land.

While Shiz University established the world and relationships in the first film, Part Two explores the broader political and social landscape of Oz during the time of Dorothy’s visit. This expanded scope required the production to build massive practical sets across multiple locations, moving away from the contained university environment to showcase the full breadth of Oz’s geography and politics.

Chu told Vanity Fair that «the meat of what Wicked is all about happens in movie two,» suggesting that while the first film established the world and relationships, the sequel will deliver the story’s emotional and thematic core. “We want to finish this story in the way that this beautiful memory of Wicked can actually come full circle and can be with you for the rest of your life,” he told VF. “We want you to look at both movies in the end and feel like it was one all along.”

For fans who have been waiting decades to see this story adapted for film, the wait is almost over.
