LA-based designer Jake Arnold, whose clients include Katy Perry and Sophia Bush, recently launched a Crate&kids collaboration. Among the many options is an oak crib with upholstered side panels. “It feels very high end,» Arnold says. «I’ve never seen a crib I loved but it’s often the focal point of a nursery. I’m proud of this piece. It’s beautiful enough that you can design a whole room around it.»
«Today, many people see the nursery, and the crib in particular, as a space worth designing and modernizing,» ELLE Decor A-List designer Ghislaine Vinas says. «Some cribs have even become trendy, coveted items for parents. We love this crib from Ubabub because it breaks away from the classic barred look, which can feel a bit like a mini jail for babies. Instead, it features a plexiglass panel for the baby’s viewing enjoyment. After all, why shouldn’t a baby be able to appreciate modern furniture too!»

«I like the wave crib from Nestig,» San Francisco-based designer Marea Clark says. «It’s sleek but the the natural wood gives it a warm vibe that works with so many nursery styles. And the fact that it’s on casters is a game-changer. You can move it around so easily, which is amazing when you’re trying to rearrange or just need a little more flexibility in the room. It looks great and makes life easier, which is a win-win for new parents.»
«Nursery furniture should complement a home’s mood in the same way as the rest of the space’s design, but you also can’t go wrong with an understated design that can adapt. You may need to use it for a future child in a different space,» designer Staver Gray of Ward + Gray advises. «The Sparrow Crib by Oeuf works with a range of aesthetics given the minimalist, sleek lines and light natural finish, and I think it works particularly well in a mid-century home.»
