The ‘Succession’ Creator Set His New Movie In A Multimillion Dollar Ski Lodge

When Jesse Armstrong created HBO’s hit series Succession he seemingly engineered the perfect vehicle for skewering out-of-touch elites. The settings, from lakeside villas to the Roy’s own massive New York City lofts, were as central to each character arc as their “quiet luxury”-mania spawning wardrobes. Now, Armstrong’s feature directorial debut, the HBO Original film Mountainhead, is ready to take a much narrower look at the lifestyles of the rich and soon-to-be infamous.

The film centers around a group of tech billionaire friends who find themselves navigating an international crisis while on vacation. They track the unfolding global conflict remotely, via social media. The movie’s singular setting is a massive ski lodge in Park City, Utah, where the median home price is just over $2 million. The decor is very rich ranch, suggesting that perhaps Armstrong has been gently Yellowstone-pilled since his last series wrapped. There’s a semi-circular pool, a kitchen with two islands, at least one double-height flagstone fireplace, a games room, a media room, and, of course, a fully stocked bar. And that’s just what we can see from the teaser.

It is, in short, not not a prepper compound. We’ll see how this unfolds. Starring Steve Carell, Jason Schwartzman, Cory Michael Smith, and Ramy Youssef, Mountainhead premiers May 31 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and streaming on Max.
