The Pros
Extreme durability: The base of the couch is made from genuine Polywood lumber, an engineered plastic material. This is what sold me–and it absolutely delivered. It’s weather-proof, fade-proof, and sturdy. Redditors say the same–most people take the cushions in during the winter but leave the base out uncovered.
Modular configurations: I was pleased that I could easily adapt the couch to any configuration (which means I’ll be able to use it for future apartments and new outdoor spaces). Removing the couch cushions takes just a couple of minutes, and reassembling the sofa base into a new configuration takes less than 20 minutes.
Comfort beyond my expectations: This was my biggest surprise! With strong durability, I expected the couch to feel stiff, especially before breaking it in. Yet, I was pleasantly surprised at the deep seating and comfort. It’s not too firm, and the back cushions let you sink in and comfortably relax.

Polywood lumber isn’t real wood: And, to be clear, it doesn’t try too hard to pretend. Up close, especially in the wood-tone finishes, it leans noticeably plastic. Online photos can be deceiving, so let me save you the guesswork: If you’re aiming for something more refined, steer clear of the «natural wood» shades. And if texture matters to you, my top recommendation is to skip the faux grain altogether and opt for a smooth, untextured base. In hindsight, I wish I’d gone with the cream or black finish instead.
Cushions take a couple hours to dry post-rain: If it just rained and you want to plop down immediately, you’ll have to wait. Generally, the couch cushions take around three hours to fully dry, especially if they’re not in direct sunlight.
Covers are not included: I don’t use cushion covers and the couch is fine—but if you want to use the couch immediately after storms, a cover could save you the wait. Polywood does not sell covers on its site, which feels like a miss, but customer service will recommend where to buy one if you need.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Easy spot cleaning: For my wine and coffee spills, I used a damp cloth with a little dish soap to spot clean, and it worked great. Because I don’t have a roof over my balcony, I do shake the pillows off each day to get rid of dust and debris.
Washable covers: The couch covers unzip easily and are machine washable, which I really appreciate. Technically, they’re meant to be air-dried, but I tossed mine in the dryer and they survived just fine. That said, I wouldn’t make a habit of it. A wash once or twice a season should keep them fresh without pushing your luck.
Winter storage: You will want to bring the cushions inside for the winter or purchase a durable cover. The Polywood lumber base can be left outside without a cover, no maintenance required.
