Jenni Kayne Is The Mother of Modern Farmhouse

There’s no one who does modern farmhouse like Jenni Kayne. The designer is well known for her snuggly separates and California-cozy home wares, from candles to accent chairs, not to mention her holistic wellness line, Oak Essentials. She also happens to design properties, the first of which, a ranch-style house outside of Los Angeles, featured many hallmarks of what has become Kayne’s signature style: a gracious floor plan, a warm materials palette, and a mix of clean-lined contemporary pieces offset with curated vintage finds.

Now, Kayne has turned her sights on the Hudson Valley with the renovation of a four-bedroom house in Tivoli, New York. Opened last summer, the Farmhouse is a tranquil, invitation-only country escape that beckons with a studied mix of creature comforts, Jenni Kayne-style.

To that end, the heart of the property is the great room, designed around a vintage wood-burning fireplace. It’s anchored by her own sofa in a red linen and accented by touches of burlwood and vintage curios sourced from Galerie Provenance. The dining area is situated at the back of the room, punctuated by an eye-catching pendant by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni over the Trestle Dining Table and Kayne’s linen-sheathed Sunset Dining Chairs; the entire space is doused in Portola Paints’s Roman Clay.

The kitchen features a custom tile backsplash by Aviva Halter. Knobs and pulls are by Sun Valley Bronze and the sink and fittings are by Waterworks.

In the streamlined kitchen, a custom tile backsplash by Aviva Halter serves as a focal point, while Kayne’s own Hampton Counter Stool provides extra space for impromptu gatherings. WOVN Home window treatments throughout provide a sense of elevated continuity that’s echoed in the bedrooms with custom coverlets meant to match the upholstery of each bed. “I think that you can have a lot of fun with materials and texture, and bring in pops of color with art,” Kayne told us last year. “I get sick of things if they’re too bold.”

The expansive grounds feature carefully curated outdoor areas, such as a sauna, a cold plunge, and a hot tub, each positioned to maximize the therapeutic benefits of the surrounding landscape. The crown jewel of the property, the Oak Essentials Wellness Club, is housed within a greenhouse and offers guests a meditative environment in which to receive treatments.

The laundry room is painted in a dark plaster and features a black sink.

It’s all part of a holistic wellness journey that extends beyond the walls of the property and, hopefully, into the rhythms of daily life. As we said: nobody does modern farmhouse like Jenni Kayne.
